What you call "the ad" follows naturally from several paragraphs explaining the circumstances motivating the creation of their own store; unity banning them. Whining about this is totally bizarre.
It was sarcasm, the article is basically "we got removed from the Unity store, so we made our own store, where were selling consulting! Consulting consulting consulting, for you and your company, so many consulting packages for all your consulting needs! Also VLC is there."
They outlined the issue and even included correspondence from Unity. The first half is a story, the second half is an advert related to that story.
Frankly, I have much more of an issue with all the paywalled stories being posted here than a small company plugging its own products after a relevant post.
I don't have much of an issue either, I was just explaining the sarcasm in the parent comment. I would have liked a format of "We launched a store and put VLC on it, and also you can get consulting there", though.
